matt maholland's biography


Instrument: Vibraphone / Percussion / Steelpans

Biography: Matt Maholland has been teaching and performing in the Midwest for the past 20 years. After receiving his M.M. in Music Performance from Wichita State University, Matt toured the U.S. with the Steel Drum Band Afinke Machine for 4 years. For the past five years Matt has taught percussion at Friends University. He has also been leading the World music program at Wichita State University for the past 8 years. Part of his duties at these schools has been to direct percussion ensemble, Steel drum band, Afro-Cuban ensemble, Djembe ensemble, and private lessons. As an artist for Arts Partners of Wichita, Matt has performed for thousands of students in the Wichita area. Through Arts Partners, Matt has been able bring the music of the Caribbean, South America, and West Africa to the children of Wichita. Matt continues to perform with such groups as the Wichita Symphony, Music Theatre of Wichita, Wichita Wind Ensemble as well as touring the Midwest with his Latin-Jazz group, Samba Groove.
